Fourth of July Jubilee Celebration - "Whales, Sails & Fish Tales"
Plans are still being made, but there are a number of events you can count on seeing here...a real small-town America Fourth of July celebration! One important note: Port Orford is famous for arguably the best fireworks display on the coast....seriously!
In Port Orford, the events are usually scheduled over 3 or 4 days. Check back here as the dates and events are finalized
Contest for drawings of Whales, photos of Sails and Limerick poems of Fish Tales. The items will be on display in Jubilee headquarters (TBD). Ballots for voting for the favorite in each category will be available to all onlookers. The votes will be tallied on Sunday afternoon and the winners will be announced. There will be a prize awarded to the winner in each category.
A sandcastle contest again this year. You can vote for your favorite in each of three categories: Guppies (age 5-10 yrs) Goldfish (11-16 yrs) & Groupers (17-100). Traditionally this contest is held from 7am-10am at the port beach. There will be a prize for the winner in each category.
Parade. 11am down Main Street, with everything from fire engines, antique tractors, horseback riders, floats and dancers. Catch the candy! Kristin Lee will sing our National Anthem at the parade and at the opening of the fireworks show.
Sponsored events throughout the town: A pancake breakfast (Rotary Club on the 4th) A hamburger and hot dog BBQ (Senior Center on the 4th) jerry can races and knot tying contest (Heritage Society on the 4th) hot dog sale (Chetco Credit Union on the 3rd) a pet show (Pampered Pooches on the 5th), and a skateboarders demo in Buffington Park.
Fireworks!!!!!! Gather around Battle Rock Park for a rockin' display starting at about 10:15pm July 4th.
