Port Orford has three state parks here, probably an amazing fact for a town of only 1,200 people.
Port Orford Heads State Park
(#9 on the City Map)
This is a wonderful area to explore, with spectacular views of offshore rocks and sheltered coves from its hiking trails on an oceanside bluff overlooking Port Orford. You can see up and down the Pacific Coast.
The park also features the historic Coast Guard Lifeboat Station Museum. In late April/May, you'll find a beautiful display of wild irises. And, there's a large resident blacktail deer population; please treat them as the wild animals they are. |
